Announcing Essay Coaching

In a city where superior coaches have brought out the best in our young swimmers, skaters and musicians, coaching for young writers is also now available. Essay Coaching, a new business launched by experienced writer and teacher Debbie Merion, helps prospective college and graduate students to bring out their best in their college application essays.

Essay coaching does not mean writing the essay for the student. It means helping the student produce a thoughtful and clear essay that leaves an admissions officer saying, “Wow! This kid is really jumping off the page! I think this student would be a great addition to our school.”

Every student has a gem of an essay that a college admissions officer wants to read. Like any gem, it will start out rough. The coaching process—involving face-to-face sessions—helps find those gems, polish them up, and make them sparkle. A free initial phone consultation is available to learn more about the brainstorming, writing and revising process.

In 1988, Spark Communications was born from a spark of neuron energy in the brain of Debbie Eisenberg Merion. Since then it has provided professional writing services in a wide range of areas, specializing in the field of technical writing.

Our name is also our goal--to infuse our writing with concise, clear, vivid images that spark a reader's understanding and interest.

Areas of Expertise

Computers and Technology--Over the years, we have written dozens of manuals on a wide range of software and hardware. People may joke about manuals, but we take this thought seriously: when the chips are down, a good manual can be your best friend.

Business--We're a small business, but we've worked with large ones and understand the issues that concern businesses: human resources, facilities, product development, service, marketing, suppliers and clients, finance, and information and technology management.

Biographies--Everyone has a story about what made them the person they are today. We interview you to find out your story, and then put together the jigsaw puzzle of your personality and experiences into a lively biography.

Health--A Wealth of Health is a humorous women's health calendar we wrote to encourage and support women who want to learn more about how to stay healthy, and keep track of some of their personal health information.

Travel--We've scaled 40-foot walls, walked over a suspension bridge with dozens of crocodiles underneath, and ridden a camel to a winery in the center of Australia. We are currently working on a humorous travelogue about our experiences in Tanzania, called "Kicked...Out of Africa."
